Description

ACEO Hand Painted Original 2.5 x 3.5 inches Anibus Observing the Moon HAND EMBELLISHED WITH CUSTOM HAND BLENDED PAINT in Gold and iridescent shades of blue and gold with a silver moon. If you were born between July 25 and August 28th, your Egyptian birth sign is Anubis. Anubis was Egypt’s primary psychopomp. He was known as the god of death and is believed to be the oldest and most revered of the ancient Egyptian gods. Anubis, the Jackal-headed god, the “Opener of the Ways”, leads the souls of the departed to justice. He is a skilled guide especially into unseen or dark realms. He possessed all the words of power that allow him to pass through all the gates of heaven and to overcome any resistance offered by the gods. Anubis was believed to have great power over the physical and spiritual beings after death. Many ancient tombs had prayers to Anubis carved on them. By the late Pharaonic era, Anubis was often depicted guiding individuals across the threshold from the world of the living to the afterlife. Anubis was the most important god of the dead until he was replaced by Osiris in the Middle Kingdom era. From the time of the Romans forward Anubis was depicted as an animal headed human leading the dead to Osiris. Anubis is responsible for caring for the dead and ushering the souls of the dead to the halls of judgment. He is associated with the mummification process which prepares the dead for their journey into the afterlife. The association of the jackal with death probably arises because the jackal frequented cemeteries where he would hope to uncover the dead to feast on the blackened decaying flesh. Perhaps it is the color of the flesh upon which he dined that accounted for his blackness. It may also be that black is the color of death to the ancient Egyptians. When Anubis draws your attention, it is a sign that you are about to enter the darkness and follow Anubis into the mystery with Set accompanying you to keep the demons at bay. Sometimes this may be the final journey but most often it is a journey into your unconscious mind. You have mustered your resources and gathered your courage to face some difficult issues and you have some excellent guides. Anubis was adept at finding hidden things and he had an unerring sense of direction which made him well suited to guide the dead to the underworld and made the return trip guiding the reincarnating soul back into physical existence. As the guide and protector of the dead Anubis was highly regeared in Egypt and is still popular in Egypt. From the book, Symbols for Seekers, Dreamers, Visionaries, Artists, Rebels, and Oracles .
