Description
Original Oil Painting featuring sailboats on calm, still waters and a low coastline. Preowned item comes from a clean dry smoke free environment. Landscape orientation Medium scale size with frame. The painted panel measures approximately 9” x 12” With custom frame and linen mat included, overall dimensions hung are 23” x 26” This impressionist painting depicts a peaceful coastal seascape or lake coastline view with muted colors that suggest overcast weather, but the sun is emerging through the clouds off in the distance - possibly later in the day. There are two identical sailboats next to one another hugging a low shoreline / marshy area. Specific location depicted in this painting is unknown. Pastel colored clouds in the sky are soft, delicate and ethereal, hinting at an impending sunset and reflected in the water around the boats. High quality custom frame is an antiqued gold painted wood and has a nice linen mat that adds rich dimension. Frame has some light faux distressed patina in the form of random tiny black marks and superficial scratches that add character and interest. This is an original characteristic and doesn’t detract from function or beauty. The painting has the artist’s signature as well as a “certificate of authenticity” attached to the back from a defunct art dealership in Florida. The certificate is from “Fine Art Wholesalers” in Pompano Beach Florida. The certificate indentifies the artist as “Morago.” However the signature on the painting does not really match that and so believed to be a misidentification by the art dealer. The signature on the painting is difficult to read and is something like IMAIDA or possibly I. MAIDA, or L. MAIDA or IMAIRA, I. MAIRA, L. MAIRA, I. MAINA, L. MAINA. The artist’s identity cannot be confirmed. Please examine photos to decide for yourself. This painting is an as-found estate item. We do not have any further information on the artist or origin. Age of painting is unknown, but frame is estimated approximately 1980s-early 2000s. A corner of the brown paper on back of frame has been torn off so that buyer can see the contemporary framing material underneath. Please examine photos and ask questions before you bid.
